The dictionary definition of genre is: a group set up on the basis of any characteristic in common eg class, kind. In terms of the media genre is usually used when dividing films into different sorts of groups such as horror, people know what to expect from a horror film. Its bound to be be something scary. A comedy being some thing funny and a western having cowboys in it,a chick flick something 'girly' a sci fi aliens etc. Each Genre has its own expectations, our chosen genre is a romantic comedy, often known as a rom-com' romantic comedies tend to be films to d with love, how couples can over come lots of problems or obstacles or two people you never expected to fall in love etc. Rom drama also tend to be quite dramatic and not just 'soppy'. Making the audience a lot wider,films such as the Notebook is a romantic film that more often than not only a women would be interested in watching whereas romantic comedies such as Hall pass appear to be more popular in both males and females.
